Just 20 years ago, which is an extremely short period of time for humanity, it would have been very difficult to imagine how the Fourth Industrial Revolution - the Technological Revolution - would change the knowledge and standards of employment.

Many jobs are being automated at a rapid rate and human labor is being replaced by machinery or software. This, of course, doesn’t mean that there is no room for people to work in the future. It simply means that we will have to re-evaluate which professions will be in demand based on the evolution of technology.

Artificial intelligence, virtual reality and interactive brain-computer contacts, are no longer a utopia of a distant future, but in just a few years could be in a position to support and complement the way we have learned to work, communicate or even have fun.

Below are described 8 professions of a not so distant future:

1. Machine learning engineer

One of the futuristic professions that is already in great demand in the tech market is the "computer teacher", belonging to a specialised branch of artificial intelligence that suits those who love the rapidly evolving field of Computer Science.

Machine learning engineers create complex algorithms to program a machine (such as a digital voice assistant) to perform tasks just like a human being. Economic forecasting, image identification and language processing are implemented in such a way that the machine can learn and improve itself without human intervention.

2. Smart Home Design Manager

Technological developments that are integrated in our daily lives create a greater need for experts in the field of Smart home & office. Especially after the hard times of the pandemic, it became clear that we want to spend our time in technologically upgraded places.

Homes and offices are built - or converted - with embedded new management technologies, soundproofing, separate voice-operated entrances and even Gorilla Glass wall screens. Smart home designers will definitely be one of the coveted new jobs of the future.

3. Autonomous Car Licensed Specialist

Welcome to the future of driving! Autonomous vehicles, wonders of artificial intelligence and engineering, are already designed to serve individuals, families or even to take a place among the standard means of public transport.

Drivers of autonomous vehicles and individuals with a degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering will be able to operate these machines remotely. A relevant legislation will soon be developed and will supervise and define the necessary permits for these future employees who will have a daily impact on our lives.

4. Robotics engineer

In the coming years we will see a number of new and innovative ways in which robotic technologies will help society and businesses function - especially in the health sector.

As technology continues to evolve rapidly, robotics engineers must continually analyse, re-evaluate, design, test, and maintain the prototypes, the robotic components, integrated software, and machines that will work for medicine, manufacturing, mining and automotive industries.

5. Augmented / Virtual Reality Life Designer & Hologram stylist

This future role will connect in a unique way the know-how with creativity. As we saw in the presentation of Mark Zuckerberg's Meta, the future of our social and professional life on social media will be based on virtual reality.

These young professionals, who will need deep computer science knowledge, will be responsible for designing the virtual environment in which we will spend our time. But there’s something even more important than that; they will design our VR avatars! This field will be based equally on creativity, the ability to design an architectural environment and artistic design of clothes and accessories. Passion for fashion will definitely be a plus!

6. VR developer

Virtual reality is truly the most sought-after technology profession of the future. The new platforms designed for socialising, working, and even entertaining will be based on VR.

Virtual reality developers are coveted by all companies that are already experimenting with VR for their business capabilities and don’t want to miss the next big trend.

7. Cloud engineer

In recent years and especially after the outbreak of the pandemic, cloud computing has become essential for those who work remotely. At the same time, corporations and institutions are constantly hiring people with appropriate skills and knowledge, who can create processes, implement necessary operations and perform cloud-related tasks.

Cloud engineers often have titles with different roles, including solutions architects, cloud developers and sysops engineers. But the main responsibility of a cloud engineer is to design, monitor and manage the cloud system of a company.

8. UX designer

All of the applications, websites, and software being used may have specific functions, but they are based on ease of use in order to attract a wider audience. As more and more companies turn to digital platforms to promote and sell their products or services, it is imperative to ensure their easy use.

UX (User eXperience) designers are the people who are responsible for everything that happens "behind the scenes", ensuring that what they design reflects the habits, behaviors and needs of consumers. This is an already sought-after profession that will continue to evolve in the future.

Some of the above may seem like science fiction ideas, but it's certain that in a very short period of time, these will be the jobs for which we will find vacancies on LinkedIn!
